Record prices

Just for fun we made a rapid survey of the market in used and sealed/new Movies records, and came up with the results below. These are prices from online sellers, and are high, because these are in some cases specialist suppliers with fairly high overheads. (NB the survey was made in 2009).

Prices vary dramatically according to disc condition and whether they have the original inserts - lyrics, promotional stickers etc. And - rarity. Promotional not-for-sale copies command higher prices.

An intriguing feature of one seller is the offer of digitally remastered versions. These are made in the USA 'with original artwork and inserts', but should be subject to copyright like anywhere else. I don't remember giving permission to anyone to remaster onto media other than vinyl. One for the lawyers. I'm ignoring the (very high) prices of these CD-remastered versions in the list below.

These are worldwide sales, and we've converted currency where possible (and where impossible - is that Finnish, Danish, Norwegian? - left the item out).

But - if you have Movies records - don't go away thinking this is what they're worth. The cheapest way to buy them is on eBay or in secondhand record shops, where I've seen Movies albums (wish I'd bought a decent copy of Double A) going for 50p.
